Phonics posters or sound posters are a great tool for use within the French Immersion classroom. However, there is so much more that you can do with them aside from using them on your bulletin board!
Here are five fun ideas to use printable French Sound Posters in your immersion classroom!
1. Phonics Scavenger Hunt
Hide phonics posters around the classroom, each featuring a specific sound. Provide clues related to each poster’s location and have your students go on a phonics scavenger hunt. When they find a poster, they can say words that start with or contain the highlighted sound.
2. Story Starters
Use phonics posters as inspiration for creative writing. Assign each student a phonics poster and ask them to create a short story incorporating words that feature the highlighted sound. This not only reinforces phonics but also encourages imaginative thinking.
3. Relay Races
Turn learning phonics into a physical activity with a French sound relay race. Place phonics posters at one end of the room and have students race to collect the poster corresponding to a given sound. To add an extra challenge, they must say a word that starts with that sound before bringing the poster back to their team. This is a great way to take the learning outside or into the gym.
4. Flashcard Challenge
Use the posters as flashcards. During a quick-fire round, show a flashcard with a word or image and students need to identify the corresponding phonics sound. It adds an element of excitement and speed to the learning process.
5. Brag Tag Rewards
Print out the smaller version of the cards and give each student a binder ring. As they learn to identify the sounds, add them to their own personalized sound card rings. This is a great incentive for students as they see how far they have come in their learning of French sounds.
